Tottenham have rewarded Harry Kane for his outstanding form this season with a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2020.
The 21-year-old striker has found the net 20 times in all competitions in this campaign, more than any other player in the Premier League.
Spurs handed the England Under-21 international a new deal in August, but his importance to Mauricio Pochettino’s side has earned him a pay rise.
“It’s been a great six months,” Kane said. “I’ve been really pleased with how things have gone. This (contract) is another stepping stone and hopefully now I’ll push on again from this and get even better.
“I’d love the fans to keep singing my name and hopefully I’ll continue to do well on the pitch and we’ll continue to do well as a team.”
Kane impressed in cup competitions and substitute appearances earlier this season but Pochettino was reluctant to throw the young striker into the first team.
Eventually the academy graduate got his chance in the Premier League and he has responded with 10 league goals.
An England call up must surely be on the horizon with the electric form that Kane has been in.
Tottenham could be looking to bring in some competition for Kane up-front as the transfer deadline approaches. Emmanuel Adebayor has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain and QPR in recent days, and Pochettino will surely bring in a replacement if the Togolese forward is offloaded.
Everton’s Kevin Mirallas and Manchester City’s Edin Dzeko are among the names Tottenham are reportedly targeting in attack.
