Tom Carroll is hoping to make his first appearance for England's Under-21s as Stuart Pearce's side gear up for two friendlies during the next week.
The Young Lions face Romania at Wycombe this evening and then take on Austria at Brighton on Monday.
Carroll is yet to play for the Under-21s but he has been recalled to the squad and is keen to impress as Pearce looks ahead to this summer’s European Championship in Israel.
“Hopefully this will be a good experience for me,” said the 20-year-old, who impressed after coming off the bench against Fulham on Sunday. “I’m looking to get that first cap under my belt, which will hopefully come in the next couple of games.
“It would be massive, it would be a proud moment for me. I played for the Under-19s once but the Under-21s is the next step and it would be great. I’ve got to try to impress the manager, hopefully catch his eye and see what happens.”
The Under-21s squad includes Tottenham’s Danny Rose, Adam Smith and Andros Townsend, who are currently out on loan.
Steven Caulker was due to be involved but the centre-back has been called up to Roy Hodgson’s senior England squad after Rio Ferdinand dropped out.
Pearce said: “We are now moving into our final preparations for what we hope will be a prosperous summer at the European Championship in Israel.
“These games are our last before I have to name my 23-man squad for June. This is an important opportunity for the players to impress as they look to secure a seat on the plane.”
