Sunday promises to be a big day in the title fight as the Premier League’s top four teams go head to head – Leicester City visit Arsenal while Tottenham travel to face Manchester City.
There were a number of season-defining duels between City and Spurs in the blue half of Manchester between 2010 and 2012, and Lilywhites fans will have powerful memories of those clashes – both good and bad.
Here, Ham&High Sport looks back at the three showdowns.
Man City 0 Tottenham 1 - 5 May 2010
Harry Redknapp’s Spurs side travelled to Eastlands for the penultimate game of the 2009/10 campaign, lying fourth – just one point ahead of their hosts.
The priority was to avoid defeat but Peter Crouch’s dramatic 82nd-minute winner secured a place in the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.
Man City 1 Tottenham 0 - 10 May 2011
One year later, almost to the day, Spurs were back in Manchester but the boot was on other foot.
With three games to go, Spurs were six points behind fourth-placed City and needed to win to stay in contention. Crouch scored the only goal again but this time it was in the wrong net and it was City who sealed a spot in the Cham-pions League for the first time.
Man City 3 Tottenham 2 - 22 January 2012
Spurs were five points behind leaders City as they arrived at the Etihad admidst talk of the title.
Samir Nasri and Joleon Lescott put the hosts 2-0 up before Jermain Defoe and Gareth Bale hit back to level, but there was heartbreak for Spurs in stoppage-time.
Defoe was agonisingly close to a winner, stretching to prod inches wide from a low Bale cross – and instead City won it at the death as Mario Balotelli scored a penalty.
Tottenham only won six of their following 16 league games, finishing fourth but losing their Champions League spot to Chelsea. Meanwhile, City went on to win the title on a thrilling final day.
