Tottenham Hotspur have been drawn in the same group as Barcelona in this year’s Champions League competition.
It will be the first time the two clubs have met since 1982 and is an intriguing situation given the fact Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, who played for Espanyol, had been linked with the managerial position at the Nou Camp.
Group B will also include PSV Eindhoven and Inter Milan, who Spurs beat in the last 16 of the Europa League in 2013.
Tottenham finished above Real Madrid in Group H last season after beating the Spanish giants 3-1 at Wembley and drawing 1-1 in the return.
They also beat Borussia Dortmund and Apoel home and away to ease into the last 16, before going out to Italian rivals Juventus.
Having come from two goals down inside nine minutes in Turin to draw 2-2 thanks to goals from Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen, Pochettino’s men took the lead in the return meeting in north London through Son Heung-min.
But Gonzalo Higuain levelled just the hour mark with his third goal of the tie and Paulo Dybala struck minutes later to secure a 4-3 aggregate victory.
Juventus went on to lose to Real Madrid in controversial circumstances in the quarter-finals when, having lost the first leg at home 3-0, they levelled the tie on aggregate in the Bernabeu Stadium, only to concede a 98th-minute penalty to Cristiano Ronaldo.
Barcelona also went out in the last eight after beating Roma 4-1 in the first leg, but losing 3-0 in the return.
Matches will be played on September 18-19, October 2-3, October 23-24, November 6-7, November 27-28 and December 11-12.
