SPURS RESERVES FAILED TO RECOVER FROM A FIRST-HALF OWN GOAL AGAINST VILLA RESERVES AT VILLA PARK ON MONDAY AND SLUMPED TO THEIR FIRST PREMIER LEAGUE SOUTH DEFEAT OF THE SEASON.

VILLA BEGAN BRIGHTLY AND THE EXPERIENCED MARLON HAREWOOD CREATED A CHANCE TO SCORE IN THE FIFTH MINUTE BUT DRILLED THE BALL WIDE. CHRIS HERD THEN HAD A CHANCE OF HIS OWN IN THE 19TH MINUTES AS VILLA TOOK CONTROL OF THE MATCH BUT BLASTED THE BALL OVER THE CROSSBAR.

THE HOME SIDE CONTINUED TO ATTACK AND GAINED THEIR REWARD THREE MINUTES LATER WHEN HERD GOT HIS FOOT TO A ZOLTAN STIEBER CORNER. THE BALL WHICH WAS BLOCKED BY SPURS KEEPER BEN ALNWICK BUT DIVERTED ONTO THE KNEE OF DAVID HUTTON, WHO INADVERTENTLY STEERED THE BALL INTO THE NET. VILLA'S ISAIAH OSBOURNE THEN RATTLED THE CROSSBAR JUST BEFORE HALF TIME BEFORE FORMER SPUR WAYNE ROUTLEDGE MISSED A GOOD OPPORTUNITY TO SCORE JUST BEFORE THE BREAK.

YET A SEEMINGLY DIFFERENT SPURS SIDE EMERGED FOR THE SECOND HALF AND INSTANTLY STARTED TO CAUSE VILLA PROBLEMS. KEVIN BOATENG THUMPED THE BALL WIDE SOON AFTER THE RESTART AND THEN HUTTON BLASTED OVER THE CROSSBAR.

THE LILYWHITES KEPT UP THE PRESSURE THROUGHOUT THE SECOND HALF BUT DESPITE CREATING A NUMBER OF GOAL-SCORING OPPORTUNITIES THEY FAILED TO GRAB AN EQUALISER.

SPURS: ALNWICK, MTANDARI (SMITH, 65), HUGHTON, HUTCHINS, DERVITE, ROCHA (OLSEN, 85), FRASER-ALLEN (TOWNSEND, 65), BOATENG, BARCHAM, TAARABT, DAVID HUTTON. SUBS: BUTTON, BERCHICHE.
