MIKE McKINLEY: Welcome Harry, but I really hoped Juande would turn it around

So there I was on Sunday morning, trying to enjoy my extra hour's lie-in, when the phone rang to tell me that the Tottenham roller-coaster was off for another spin.

The news managed to be a surprise and yet not a surprise - the suddenness of axing the entire backroom team rather than the ill-fated Damien Comolli was out of the blue, while the appointment of Harry Redknapp also had a certain inevitability, even if he did seem like a name from a couple of years back.

I was a Juande Ramos fan, and until the end kept hoping that he would turn things around, but we needed something to change before our plight drifted beyond repair.

The board have certainly made a popular choice - our media relations are already unrecognisable - and the fans will be happy to see a likeable Englishman given sole charge over his team.

And the team responded well to his presence on Sunday in gaining that vital first win. I look around the division and still think there are far too many teams that we are a whole lot better than to be worried about finishing in the bottom three, but reality is that we'd played a good few of them without winning.

Hopefully 'Arry can string together enough results between now and January to see us making progress and then use the window to address the weaknesses in the squad.

The comeback at Arsenal was fantastic but buzzing Liverpool visit on Saturday teatime, bringing with them a painful reminder of how disastrous some of our summer dealings were.

And worryingly Robbie Keane has a habit of scoring against his old teams.
