TOO good to go down? No, because the table does not lie.

And at the moment Spurs are bottom with just two points from seven games - their worst start to a league season for 96 years.

Juande Ramos insists he will not quit but if he does not get his misfiring strikers on the goal trail soon the decision may not be his.

Both Darren Bent and Fraizer Campbell had poor games while Roman Pavlyuchenko limped off in the first half.

Yet, Spurs did not play badly against buoyant Hull - they just could not score. The Lilywhites twice hit the woodwork through defenders Gareth Bale and Jonathan Woodgate in the first half, while former Spur Dean Marney also hit a post.

In between, Hull's Brazilian Geovanni stunned the Lane faithful with a brilliantly taken, curling free kick from 30 yards.

Spurs pinned Hull back after the break but Bent wasted a glorious opportunity to level when he was sent clear by Luka Modric. He lifted the ball over Boaz Myhill and wide of the goal.

Tottenham continued to enjoyed plenty of possession but Hull were still a threat on the break and Heurelho Gomes needed to be alert to deny Marlon King.

Spurs had one final chance to salvage a point with a free kick but Bale curled it wide.

SPURS PLAYER OF THE GAME: Heurelho Gomes. The keeper continues to be Spurs most consistent player.

Team: Gomes 6, Gunter 5 (Bentley 5, 55), Corluka 6, Woodgate 6, Bale 5, Jenas 6, Modric 5, Lennon 6 (Giovanni 5 74), Zokora 6, Pavlyuchenko 5 (Bent 5 35), Campbell 5. not used: Cesar, Dawson, O'Hara, Assou-Ekotto.
