PORTSMOUTH have been a revelation since the return of manager Harry Redknapp in 2005.

Redknapp had built a strong squad during his first spell in charge at Fratton Park between 2002 and 2004 but moved to neighbouring Southampton for 12 months before returning three years ago.

Pompey have blossomed under Redknapp, who in 2004 led them back to the Premier League as League One champions.

Last season, Portsmouth beat Cardiff City to win the FA Cup and finished eighth in the league.

The FA Cup win booked Pompey a place in Europe for the first time and they opened with a 2-0 home win over Guimaraes in the Uefa Cup last week.

Redknapp's men faced a stern task in this season's opening game when they travelled to Stamford Bridge to take on title contenders Chelsea, eventually losing 4-0.

No respite was offered in their next game when they welcomed current champions Manchester United and were beaten 1-0.

But former Spur Jermain Defoe quickly got them back on track, netting twice in their 3-0 victory over Everton.

Defoe, who was joined by former Lane team-mate Younes Kaboul just before the transfer deadline, then bagged both goals in the 2-1 defeat of Middlesbrough.

Another ex Spur hoping to impress is Sean Davis, who was part of the team hammered 6-0 by Manchester City at Eastlands on Sunday.
