Mauricio Pochettino will go head-to-head with old rival Pep Guardiola for a spot in the semi-finals

Tottenham Hotspur have been drawn against fellow Premier League side Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The draw took place in Nyon, Switzerland and Spurs have been handed a difficult tie if they want to reach the last-four of the competition.

Pep Guardiola’s City will visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the first leg on Tuesday, April 8 and the Lilywhites will travel to the Etihad a week later on Wednesday, April 17.

Mauricio Pochettino also discovered who his team could face in the semi-finals if they make it past the Premier League champions.

Spurs would take on one of Ajax or Juventus in the last four with the first leg again in north London.

First things first, though, the N17 outfit have to negotiate a tough two games with the current leaders of England’s top flight.

The way the Premier League fixtures are scheduled, Tottenham will play City on three occasions in the space of 10 days next month.

After travelling to Manchester on either April 17, Spurs might as well remain up north with a league clash against Guardiola’s men to come on April 20.

Given the club’s recent form, it is safe to say the aforementioned period could define Tottenham’s season, but also City’s too.

Whichever team gets dumped out of the Champions League in the quarter-final stage will have little time to pick themselves up too before doing battle with the same opponent again in the league.

Because of where Spurs and the Sky Blues are in the table, neither can afford to lose the Premier League encounter at the Etihad and it adds to the intrigue of this all-English tie.
