Audi Cup: Bayern Munich 2 Tottenham Hotspur 2 (Spurs win 6-5 on penalties)
Spurs clinched the Audi Cup on Wednesday night with a penalty shoot-out victory over hosts' Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.
Goals from Erik Lamela and Christian Eriksen put Tottenham Hotspur in control, but the Bundesliga champions responded with two late efforts to force spot-kicks.
In them, Paulo Gazzaniga saved two efforts from Bayern while the Lilywhites scored six of their seven to claim a 6-5 win on penalties.
Captain Hugo Lloris was one of three Frenchmen to start alongside Moussa Sissoko and surprisingly Georges-Kevin Nkoudou.
The latter was the man to create the opener with the often maligned winger dribbling past an opponent before he crossed into the area for Lamela to slide home in the 19th minute of the final.
It finished 1-0 at the break and Mauricio Pochettino again made nine changes during the half time interval with Japhet Tanganga and Harvey White among those brought on in Munich.
And just before the hour mark Tottenham doubled their lead with Harry Kane holding the ball up well and finding Eriksen, who fired home.
Jann-Fiete Arp reduced the deficit in the 61st minute, latching onto Alphonso Davies' flick and finishing beyond Gazzaniga and the equaliser arrived 20 minutes later.
Davies went from provider to goalscorer with a fine finish from 25-yards and Spurs had introduced George Marsh and Jack Roles at this point with Juan Foyth leaving on a stretcher and Lucas Moura replaced.
No further goals occurred and so penalties were needed with Toby Alderweireld, Heung-min Son, Kane, Roles, Oliver Skipp and Tanganga scoring.
Eriksen was denied and crucially so was Bayern duo David Alba and Jerome Boateng as Gazzaniga inspired Tottenham to pre-season cup success.
Next up for the Lilywhites is a home match in the International Champions Cup with Inter Milan on Sunday.
