Bostik Premier: Haringey Borough 1 Folkestone Invicta 0
Haringey Borough closed in on the Bostik Premier play-offs with another excellent win on Saturday, this time at home to Folkestone Invicta.
Tom Loizou’s team had won their previous five games in the division and a goal in the 27th minute by Femi Akinwande was enough to give them all three points following a 1-0 victory at Coles Park.
Borough received a boost ahead of kick-off when they announced the return of fans’ favourite Ralston Gabriel.
The forward, who spent the first few months of the campaign at St Albans City in the National League South, was on the bench for the clash with Invicta and watched one of his new striker partners find the net in the first half.
Akinwande netted in the recent win over Kingstonian and scored again on Saturday as Folkestone failed to clear their lines and the attacker produced a good finish with 27 on the clock.
It would prove the only goal of the game, but Borough did hit the woodwork twice – once in the first period and again after the break.
Haringey’s sixth triumph in their last seven matches in all competitions places them eighth in the standings with 30 points, which is only one point off fifth-placed Worthing, who occupy the final play-off spot.
Next up for Loizou’s team is another home clash, this time against Bishop’s Stortford this evening (Monday) with the Hertfordshire club in sixth position and only a point ahead of Borough.
