Greens suffered defeats at both Gosport Borough and Kings Langley in past week

Hendon will look to return to winning ways in the Evo-Stik South Premier South on Saturday when they entertain fellow high-flyers Merthyr Town.

The Greens have endured a disappointing week leading up to the game, having lost twice away from home.

The first defeat came on Saturday as James Gray’s men fell to a 3-1 loss away to Gosport Borough.

Despite the result, the Silver Jubilee Park outfit had taken the lead against Boro as Shaquille Hippolyte-Patrick opened the scoring in the 39th minute.

Hendon’s lead lasted for just two minutes, though, as Craig McAllister netted to send the teams into half-time level.

The Greens then fell behind to a Tony Lee goal in the 63rd minute, before conceding a third to Patrick Suraci three minutes from time.

Gray took to social media site Twitter to share his thoughts following that loss, posting: “We started the game so well; in fact it was the best half-hour of football this season.

“The game is 90-plus minutes though and we lost our way in a really bad manner. Individual and collective mistakes from front to back is why we lost.”

Hendon followed up that disappointment with another 3-1 defeat on Tuesday night, this time at Kings Langley.

Mitchell Weiss had put the Kings ahead in the 25th minute, before Cole Brown equalised for the Greens five minutes later.

Gray’s men were dealt a blow in the 37th minute when Luke Tingey was dismissed, before Steve Ward scored a penalty a minute later to put the hosts back in front.

The Kings then added a third in the second half when Luke Wade-Slater scored 18 minutes from time to compound a disappointing week for the Silver Jubilee Park side.

The two defeats means Hendon are without a league win in their last four fixtures ahead of facing Merthyr on Saturday.

The Greens will hope to end that poor form with a victory against the Martyrs on Saturday. A defeat, however, may see Gray’s men slip out of the top five in the division as the season continues to tick towards Christmas.
