The Blues will compete in the second round for the first time, but they don’t want the journey to end

Wingate & Finchley’s under-18s will look to keep up their impressive form in the FA Youth Cup this evening (Thursday) when they host Andover Town in the second round.

The young Blues have produced a number of outstanding results in the tournament so far and scored 16 goals in five ties and only conceded six times.

Next up for them is tonight’s match with Hampshire-based Andover and the winner will book themselves a lucrative trip to Portman Road to take on Championship outfit Ipswich Town in the next phase of the competition.

The clash at the Maurice Rebak Stadium kicks-off at 7pm and the Blues will be hoping to get some more support after several fans were present for the 5-3 win over Kings Langley in the previous round on November 1.

After taking the lead inside two minutes through an Adam Morris penalty, a turnaround then occurred at Summers Lane with the visitors netting twice to lead 2-1 at the break.

But an action-packed second period, where five goals were scored, saw Wingate make it through and in the process create history with Kevonte Willoughby-Williams and Simeon Olarerin on target after Ruben Carvalho had claimed a brace for the N12 club.

This is the furthest the Blues have gone in the FA Youth Cup, yet after beating Haringey Borough, Uxbridge, Hayes & Yeading, Ascot United and Kings Langley to get this far, the talented north London teenagers don’t want the journey to end.
