FA Cup first qualifying round: Brentwood Town 2 Haringey Borough 3
Haringey Borough survived an almighty scare to progress past Brentwood Town into the next round of the FA Cup following a dramatic 3-2 victory on Saturday.
Tom Loizou’s men appeared to be heading out of the competition when Ayrton Coley fired Town ahead with 81 on the clock.
A couple of late goals sent Borough into the second qualifying round, however, where they will discover their opponents later this afternoon.
The game at the Arena started at a frantic pace with Sam Carter finding the net after three minutes for the Bostik North hosts.
It took Haringey less than 120 seconds to equalise though, as Georgios Aresti levelled with five on the clock.
After a competitive rest of the tie, Brentwood thought they had secured a shock win over their Bostik Premier rivals when Coley, formerly of Borough, smashed home nine minutes from time.
Visiting substitute Chinedu McKenzie equalised for the away side in the 88th minute, however, to seemingly force a replay.
But Femi Akinwande had other ideas and drilled home from the edge of the area in stoppage time to earn Haringey a thrilling 3-2 win and pocket £6,000 in prize money.
