Arsene Wenger rued his side's terrible early season form after Arsenal's fourth league win in a row.

Returning duo Emmanuel Adebayor and Cesc Fabregas were key to Arsenal's success with the former netting both goals after being set up twice by the Spaniard.

First Fabregas' centre was headed home by the Togo star after just nine minutes before he picked him out again with a stunning pass shortly after the break for Adebayor to round Shay Given and slot home his tenth league goal of the season In between Gelson Fernandes struck the post for the visitors - the closest they came to scoring all afternoon.

Arsenal now have a firm grip on fourth place, six points clear of Aston Villa, and still have Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea to play in their final seven league games.

"We have played 31 games and we are 17 unbeaten but that means that in the first 14 we have lost five. To win the championship after losing five in the first 14 cannot work," lamented Wenger.

"It shows what I said since the start of the season; when a team is young like that, they can improve. They have shown that now, we go from strength to strength, ... we're not the same team that we were in August or September."

The homeside had opportunities to score more as they totally dominated a City side with only one away point in 2009.

Wenger added: "In the second half we completely took over and maybe should have scored more goals. Overall I'm pleased because there is a lightness back in the team. Everybody looks to enjoy and play without any restriction. That's good to see."
