Lucas Torreira has been speaking about Arsenal beating Spurs in a dramatic North London derby at the Emirates on Sunday. Read on for what he said.

A brace from Pierre-Emerick Aubemeyang supplemented by goals from Alexander Lacazette and Torreira clinched the victory for the Gunners after Spurs went into the break 2-1 up after Eric Dier and a Harry Kane penalty put the Lillywhites in command.

The deserved victory – boosted by an excellent display from the tenacious Uruguayan tackler – saw Unai Emery’s Gunners leapfrog their bitter rivals into fourth place in the Premier League.

Speaking to journalist Renato Senise from Brazilian TV channel RedeTV, the popular Torreira said: “During the week we had been talking a lot, during the training sessions. And I told Robert Pirès that if I scored a goal I would take the shirt off.

“Surely he will remember it, because one of the days during the week I told him that. And well, when I scored a lot of things passed through my head.

“A lot of hapiness. So much sacrifice, so much work. And it’s good that all of this was reflected in the pitch.”

Former Sampdoria midfielder Torreira, has impressed since he signed for Arsenal this summer following eye-catching performances in the heart of battle in Serie A and the 2018 World Cup for his country.

His no-nonsense approach has already endeared him to Gunners fans who have taken him to their heart.

The feeling appears to be mutual as the Fray Bentos-born star added: “Arsenal is a great club, with great fans.

“The matches are always packed, with fantastic atmosphere. The fans have dedicated a song for me and it’s incredible, because I am here for a little while and they already have such an affection for me.

“And I just try to have fun and every time I got to the pitch I try to give my life for this shirt and try to help my teammates. That’s what makes me happy.”
