Ajax brothers Frank and Ronald de Boer turned down the chance of an £18m double move to Highbury. The pair opted to wait to see if their coach, Louis van Gaal, was offered the Barca job in the summer.

Former Arsenal manager George Graham - now at Leeds - tipped Arsene Wenger to bring the title to Highbury for the first time since 1991. "I'm not surprised how well Arsene Wenger has done but I left him a great side," he said. "I think Arsenal will be there at the wire.
