Teenage striker Clive Allen moved to Crystal Palace - just six weeks after arriving from QPR for £1.25m.

Allen, who played just three pre-season games for Arsenal, headed to Selhurst Park along with goalkeeper Paul Barron. In return England defender Kenny Sansom arrived at Highbury while the Eagles paid an additional £400,000.

Three days later, Sansom had a hand in Frank Stapleton's winner as the Gunners opened the season with 1-0 win at West Brom.
