Tony Gervaise has been named as Arsenal Ladies' new manager.

The 54-year-old Scot will succeed Vic Akers, who stood down from his role last month after 22 years.

Gervaise joined Arsenal in 2008 as Academy Director and was also assistant to Akers last season as the Gunners' girls completed a domestic treble.

Before moving south he was the Scottish FA's Head of Youth Development in women's football.

"The mentality at Arsenal is first class and it's onwards and upwards as far as I'm concerned. I look forward to it immensely," he said.

Akers believes Gervaise is the right man to replace him.

"I am sure he will do an excellent job," Akers said.

"He has been with me a year so far ... we planned on him being around me as an assistant and as a coach. He moves on now to be first-team coach. By the start of the season we'll have everything in place."
