Stevenage boss Darren Sarll has revealed the details behind the injury to Arsenal loanee Ben Sheaf during his only second training session at the club’s training ground Bragbury End.

The highly-rated starlet who impressed on his debut for the Gunners in the cauldron of the Marakana Stadium against Red Star Belgrade in the Europa League in October signed for the North Herts club on Friday.

However, the move, designed to further his progress in League Two rather than under-23 games for the club, did not get off to an auspicious start for the talented youngster.

Boro boss Sarll, speaking after his side’s hard-fought 1-0 against Chesterfield at the Proact Stadium told the Islington Gazette he expected Sheaf to be back playing in around 10 to 12 days.

He said: “He’s made a massive impact on me already and will be a terrific player. He’s got a great attitude and is a typical Arsenal technician in terms of his ability and capability in possession.

“He flew himself into a cross-cum shot in his second session for me and he just tucked his left leg behind his bum and he strained the top of his left leg just under his bum cheek.

“We’ve got be precautionary. He’s not our player he’s Arsenal’s player.

“And we want players to be at their physical best. I think he will be out for between ten days to two and half weeks while he recovers.”

The disappointed Stevenage boss who has worked hard along with his staff to bring Sheaf to the Lamex was full of praise for Arsenal as a club but conceded he was ‘lower than a snake’s belly’ after the injury.

“I was very disappointed and so were the supporters that our ‘new toy’ couldn’t come out and play as it were.

“He’s a terrific player and will be a great player for our fans to enjoy when he’s fit again.”
