Unai Emery is set to be appointed Arsenal boss this week.

The former PSG boss is expected to be announced as the replacement for Arsene Wenger at the Emirates.

The Gunners had been heavily-linked with Mancheser City assistant manager Mikel Arteta before emerging as the unanimous choice following a recruitment process that Arsenal confirmed involved many hours research and interviews with prime candidates before they ended up with their ‘preferred candidate’. Emery left PSG after his two-year contract with the Parisian moneybags expired. He lifted the Ligue 1 title, two French Cups and a brace of French League Cups. Prior to that he guided previous club Sevilla to three consecutive Europa League triumphs between 2014 and 2016.

The process was spearheaded by Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis, head of football relations Raul Sanllehi and head of recruitment Sven Mislintat – however the final decision was down to majority shareholder and owner ‘Silent’ Stan Kroenke, guided by son Josh.

There have been a number of favourites to replace the long-serving Wenger since he stepped down after the final match against Huddersfield Town on Sunday, May 13 including Luis Enrique, Juventus manager Max Allegri, former midfielder Patrick Vieria as well as Arteta – but Emery was quoted at 66/1 at the start of the process.
