This week in 1998....

Arsene Wenger blamed the recent international break for his side's lacklustre display in their 1-1 home draw with bottom club Southampton.

Nicolas Anelka fired the hosts into the lead but Arsenal missed a host of chances before they were pegged back by former Tottenham midfielder David Howells' second half equaliser - Saints' first away goal of the season.

"We had 15 players away, from Tunisia to Bulgaria," moaned Wenger. "They thought of everything for two weeks except Arsenal against Southampton.

"It's not acceptable to lose players to play against the Faroe Islands or San Marino when you have to pay the consequences."

Meanwhile, Patrick Vieira vows NOT to change his ways - despite picking up 26 bookings and two red cards in two years.

'Sometimes I don't think until it is too late but I won't change my determination on the pitch, I won't change my game," he said. "When I have a bad moment or get a yellow card, I don't care about that. I have to have the contact. I am a winner.'
