Arsenal boss Don Howe called their hard-fought 2-1 win over Luton a "good, tough, typical English game".

An Ian Allinson penalty put Arsenal ahead before Mick Harford levelled for the Hatters with a header.

But Arsenal won a bruising contest when Graham Rix's deflected 58th minute free kick beat Les Sealey to earn all three points.

Howe added: "If you don't compete in football, you don't get anywhere."

Luton boss David Pleat was less happy with Arsenal's tough tactics. "Some of my players were taken out," he moaned, despite his side picking up four second half bookings.
