Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has urged caution ahead of the second leg of the Europa League quarter final despite his side’s 4-1 victory over CSKA Moscow in the first leg at the Emirates on Thursday night.

Despite a three goal cushion after his team outclassed Viktor Goncharenko’s attack-minded Russians their away goal has left Wenger wary of the trip to Russia.

The highly-rated Alexsandr Golovin – who Wenger is reputedly interested in – lifted the ball over the wall and into the net past Cech’s left hand, after picking himself up from Koscielny’s clumsy foul moments earlier to grab what could still be a crucial away goal.

Speaking after the match Wenger confirmed his fears – after a host of missed chances in the second half – saying: “We did the first part of the job, but not the second.

“On the other hand [the away goal] will help us to focus completely on the second game and not think it’s job done. We know it is not over.

“We have to go there with the right focus and try to win the game.”

The long-serving Frenchman was full of praise for Golovin’s enterprising visitors who surprised many with the attacking intensity.

Two goals each from Aaron Ramsey and Alexandere Lacazette sealed the match – if not the tie – with the game sure to be remembered for the Welshman’s audacious second goal which, after the crowd had celebrated wildly, saw many spontaneously applaud the quality of the goal.

But, as the clock ticked down you there was still a feeling only a fifth goal would make next week’s second leg relatively safe.

Wenger added; “CSKA Moscow is a good team, quick going forward. They gave us many problems in the first half especially.

“They are at a very good technical level, very mobile, very intelligent with their use of the ball. They played in a very offensive style, we are not used to seeing that in the Premier League at the Emirates.

“Teams come here, stay in their half and wait for us. They had a go at us and it was uncomfortable.”
