Zenit St Petersburg have confirmed Arsenal have shown an interest in their star player Andrei Arshavin - but the two sides are reportedly far apart on their valuation of the player.

The Russians are believed to want £20m for Arshavin, but the Gunners value him at considerably less.

Is Arsenal were to meet Zenit's asking price, Arshavin would easily become their most expensive signing, eclipsing Sylvain Wiltord (£13m) and Jose Antonio Reyes (£11m).

Arshavin is believed to have visited the club's London Colney training ground before Christmas and Zenit are keen on a deal through after signing his replacement, Portugal playmaker Danny, from Russian Premier League rivals Dinamo Moscow for nearly £24m.

Tottenham Hotspur were also believed to have been offered the player but they declined.
