Winger Robin Drake touched down twice as Hampstead’s ladies moved to the top of Championship South East Division Two with a 29-12 bonus-point victory at Richmond III.
With most of the fixtures being rained off, Hampstead had the opportunity to make a move up the table, and they duly leapfrogged Hammersmith & Fulham and Blackheath to take the No1 spot.
The back row of Alex Bowtell, Fran Athewes and Elin Hywel tackled aggressively and Hampstead quickly put tries on the board.
Anna Jones went over after a good move in the centre, and Mel Wright then crossed the line before her fellow winger Drake ended her scoring drought.
Hampstead conceded a glut of penalties in the second half, but that didn’t stop their momentum – and Drake touched down for a second time, with Kerrie Tuck converting. Tuck then added the icing on the cake with her own try, before added the extras again.
