Ryman Premier League: Thurrock 1 Hendon 2

Veteran midfielder Darren Currie converted a last-minute penalty to lift Hendon out of the relegation zone with victory over fellow strugglers Thurrock on Tuesday night.

It was the first time the Greens have come from behind to win a league game this season – and it moved them up two places in the Premier Division table.

Belal Aite-Ouakrim should have put Hendon ahead in the fifth minute with a free header from a corner, but he directed it straight at the goalkeeper.

Hendon looked comfortable, but they contrived to fall behind midway through the first half when Dean Cracknell lost possession and Ryan Imbert set up Jack Paxman to score.

The visitors continued to play most of the football without putting efforts on target and made some very poor decisions on when to pass, shoot or cross.

But Thurrock started to make mistakes at the back in the second half and Howard Hall capitalised, running through to fire the equaliser into the bottom corner.

And the Greens snatched victory in the final minute when substitute Julian Owusu’s shot struck a Thurrock hand, the referee pointed to the spot and Currie confidently did the rest.
