Darroux hat-trick helps secure double

Haringey Borough’s women ended the most exciting season in their 18-year history by completing a league and cup double at Letchworth.

Having won the Eastern Region League title three weeks earlier, they produced a 5-1 win over Cambridge City in the league cup final and can now look forward to competiting in Division One South East of the Women’s Premier League.

Borough got off to a flying start with Klesha Darroux moving in smoothly from the left to plant an accurate finish in the far top corner after only five minutes.

And Darroux doubled the lead a few minutes later with a thumping header from Brooke Hills’ well-flighted corner.

It was 3-0 at half time as Darroux ran on to a through ball and produced a composed low finish to complete her hat-trick, but the margin could have been wider as several other chances went begging.

Cambridge rallied after the restart and managed a goal of their own from a free-kick midway through the second half.

But Borough keeper Cherkish Young did well to hold on to a shot at close range to deny them a second goal and Karesha Iton made it 4-1 with a precise lob over the onrushing City keeper 10 minutes from time.

Player of the match Jaidene Browne completed Borough’s nap hand from the penalty spot after Anele Komani was fouled in the box and it was quite fitting after the work done by her late father Steve, who was in his third year as manager and had steered the team towards the title before passing away on New Year’s Day.

After a string of draws, Borough bounced back from that tragic news to regain their best form and win their last three matches in style.
