South Hampstead sealed a comfortable 58 run victory over Stoke Newington in the Middlesex Championship Division One on the weekend.

SH won the toss, and skipper Nish Patel decided to bat first on a dusty wicket, where they got of to a steady start, youngster Saqib Ahmed making his first team debut top scored with 48.

Captain Patel said: "He batted with good composure and temprement in his first game, I'm hoping he can carry on his good form for the remainder of the season."

A very good fourth wicket partnership between Saqib Ahmed and Ruhan took SH score to 140-3 after 34.

The platform was set for SH to make a big score, however Stoke Newington bowled very well to come back and restricted SH to 191 all out in 44.3 overs.

The hosts got of to a good start at 25-0 from four overs.

It took an excellent piece of fielding from Touqeer Ahmed to take the first wicket, running out their opening batsman who looked good.

Touqeer fielded suberbly taking four catches in the game.

A fine spell of bowling from Bilal Akram (3-16 of 9 overs) set the tone for SH dismissing SN's top order - it's by far the best spell I've seen this season by any of our seamers.

The introduction of leg spinner Saqib Pervez led to SN's downfall, taking 5-32 in his 9 overs - bowling with good control and turning the ball on a wicket which suited spinners. SN were eventually dismissed all out for 135 in 39 overs.

Captain Patel said: "An excellent win and to win our second game away from home was a good feeling.

"The team spirit and the players morale are high after this victory, especially to bounce back from a home loss the previous week to Kenton.

"We have two consecutive games at home in the next couple of weeks, and expect to take maximum points from them. "The team are playing well and the results are reflecting that this season, which is very promising to see."
