Harman Drive outfit visit Teddington for their latest league fixture on Saturday
Brondesbury skipper James Overy says the team will be boosted by their recent results against Teddington ahead of Saturday’s meeting between the sides in the Middlesex County Premier Division.
The Harman Drive outfit beat Teddington by 25 runs in the league in June and also won by 89 runs when the sides met in the Middlesex County KO Cup quarter-finals in July.
With Brondesbury heading into the weekend bottom of the league table, another victory at Teddington on Saturday would not go amiss.
And despite being without a win in eight league games, Overy says the Harman Drive side will use the wins over Teddington this term to give them a confidence boost for the weekend.
“Teddington will look to make it tough for us, but they are a side we know we can beat,” he said.
“Having beaten them a couple of times already this season, that is a positive we can draw on.
“If we have belief in ourselves and our teammates in doing our jobs on Saturday, there is no reason why we can’t win.”
Against title hopefuls Ealing last Saturday, Brondesbury suffered a 34-run defeat at home.
That was despite bowling the visitors out for 134, thanks in part to a brilliant bowling performance from Sam Smith.
The Brondesbury bowler took 7-67, which represented Smith’s best figures of the season so far.
And despite seeing that bowling performance come in a losing cause, Overy was delighted with Smith’s display.
“Sam was outstanding with the ball, but he was also great in the field against Ealing,” added Overy.
“He always gives 100 per cent and that makes him something of a talisman for us.
“We won’t have Sam for the last few games of the season, so that will leave us with a hole to fill because, for me, he has been our player of the year.”
Overy will hope that if Smith is able to produce another scintilating display of bowling against Teddington this weekend, it comes in a vital victory for Brondesbury.
