Chris Turner ran in UCS Old Boys' only try in their clash with Grasshoppers on Saturday as they ran out victors despite an error-strewn performance.

After last week's heavy 33-6 loss at Imperial Medicals, UCS bounced back to winning ways by capitalising on Grasshoppers' ill-discipline.

But with the visitors receiving three sin binnings and UCS's handling continually letting them down, it was both sides' mistakes that dominated the match.

UCS Director of Rugby Geoff Boxer said: "I have never seen us make so many errors so we'll take that win but it is instantly forgettable with regards to the standard of play.

"Although the match was remarkable in other ways if only for the fact that it shows how sides can self-destruct, as Grasshoppers did."

The visitors started the game strongest after a slow opening from UCS but they failed to use their possession and after giving away numerous penalties, their flanker was sent to the sin bin after 20 minutes.

The Old Boys couldn't fully exploit their man advantage though and, despite leading 6-0 at half-time from two Casey Mee penalties, their play was littered with errors.

Mee immediately added to the Old Boys' score with a long-range penalty at the start of the second half but as the mistakes continued it was Grasshoppers who scored the first try of the game on the hour to reduce the deficit to 9-5.

UCS then put some good phases together and after neat play from the back line, Dan Stewart put in a fine cross-kick for young winger Turner to touch down in the corner for his first try of the season.

The home side had little trouble hanging on for the victory in the closing stages as Grasshoppers continued to implode with two further sin binnings for foul play.

A ninth win of the campaign for UCS keeps them fifth in the table, just three points behind Hammersmith & Fulham, Chiswick and Imperial Medicals.

Saturday sees fifth placed UCS host sixth place Hampstead in a local derby, with both sides sitting level on points and looking for the win.
