WE'VE got just six games remaining - three in the County Championship and three in the Pro40.

And we don't want the season to peter out, especially in the Pro40 where we are in big danger of being relegated.

We ended last season on a high by winning promotion in the Pro40 and we don't want to finish this season by seeing ourselves back into the second division.

After losing the last three matches in the competition we are second from bottom on just three points, along with Lancashire - and the team above us Somerset have a superior run rate.

We play Nottinghamshire at Lord's on Sunday and I want to see us get back to playing some good cricket. We've got to get stuck into teams.

I feel we need to show some professional pride. Let's not lose any of those last three games.

At the start of the season, our targets were promotion in the County Championship and winning a trophy.

The Twenty20 Cup success was an outstanding achievement but it is done and dusted. Now we want to make sure we are safe in the Pro40.

In fact, I want us to see it as an achievement to retain our first division status. That should be our incentive for the rest of the season.

Apart from the Twenty20 Cup we have been fairly lacklustre in the other competitions.

We also want to be playing good cricket going into the lucrative Stanford Series at the end of the season.

We don't want to be going there playing dire cricket and having tasted relegation from the Pro40.

The reality is that none of the players will want to drop catches in that £1million game.

So, the mind-set has to be to finish the season strongly in both the Championship and Pro40.

We entertain Gloucestershire in the four-day game at Lord's this week and there is not much between the teams in terms of points or places in the table.

Gloucestershire are bottom on 97 and we are fourth from bottom on 123. We've got to go into the match knowing we can win it.

The longer the losing streak goes on the less confidence the players will have for the run-in.

Last week we were left to rue dropped catches in the Pro40 defeat against Gloucestershire in the day-night game at Bristol. Having to field in drizzle and bowl with a wet ball didn't help us. But again we turned in a disappointing performance to lose by three wickets with eight balls remaining.

Two players dominated the batting - Eoin Morgan for us with a superb 82 - and Hamish Marshall with a match-winning unbeaten century for Gloucestershire.

They bowled exceptionally well but crucially Marshall was dropped by Stephen Finn when he was on 46. Morgan's confidence is sky high at the moment after his excellent knock for England Lions on his debut.

Eoin is a very exciting player for the future - he can play all the new shots and seems to invent some others.
