Eleven-year-old rising star Brandon Biss led the way as Camden Swiss Cottage picked up 68 medals over three weekends of racing in the County Championships.

The club secured 26 gold medals, 16 silvers and 26 bronzes at Barnet Copthall pool, with Biss finishing first on six occasions in the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke in addition to the 100m individual medley, 200m breaststroke and 400m freestyle.

He also went home with a silver medal after coming second in his 100m breaststroke event and departed with two bronzes after third-placed finishes in the 200m freestyle and 200m IM.

Alex Borisov, 15, was also a prolific performer for Camden, winning five golds, two silvers and three bronzes – and another 11-year-old, Ella McEver, had an excellent championship of her own, amassing four golds and two bronzes.

Julia Murphy, 13, powered to triple gold in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke and also clinched two silvers and two bronzes, while 14-year-old Leah O’Connell enjoyed a clean sweep in her three multi-class races, taking golds in the 50m freestyle, 100m breaststroke and 100m backstroke in the S8 category.

Anne Tavierne, 15, also put in a series of strong displays, claiming gold in the 200m freestyle while seizing three silvers and coming third in the 200m IM.

Caterina Brighi, 24, took double gold in the 200m IM and 200m backstroke, while 14-year-old Lauren Brantley won gold in the 50m butterfly, silver in the 50m backstroke and two bronzes in the 50m freestyle and 100m IM.

Meanwhile, Amir Castronovo, 13, continued his rapid improvement by taking home the gold in the 50m breaststroke – plus bronze medals in the longer 100m and 200m distances.

Maddie Hookway, 17, raced to second place in both the 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle, while picking up bronzes in the 100m IM and 100m breaststroke.

There were four other silver medalists – Marlie Rittenhouse, who got two, Olivia Halsted, Stanley Ramsay, and James Slade – while Ramsay and Slade also won a bronze apiece along with seven of their club-mates. In addition, more than 40 Camden swimmers achieved top-eight finishes.

Training is now taking place in earnest for April’s British Championships and the London Regional Championships, which will be held in April and May.
