Camden Swiss Cottage secured a seventh-place finish in the 2015 National Arena Swimming League after contesting the London Premier Division final at the weekend.
Lauren Brantley, 13, was one of Camden’s stand-out performers in front of a vocal crowd at a packed Woodside Leisure Centre in Watford, coming second in both the girls’ 13-and-under 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle in quick succession.
Alexis Lambropoulous, 11, also touched in second place in the girls’ 11-and-under 50m butterfly – as did 16-year-old Maddie Hookway in the ladies’ open 100m breaststroke.
Gabriele Giavannoni, 11, sprinted hard to take third spot in the boys’ 11-and-under 50m backstroke, while Alex Chen, 11, finished in the same position in the 11-and-under 50m breaststroke.
Katie Ambridge powered to claim another third-place finish in the ladies’ open 100m butterfly and James Slade also picked up valuable points for the club as he came third in the 200m individual medley.
The girls’ 11-and-under 4x50m medley relay swam brilliantly together to take a second-place finish, with the boys’ quartet coming third in their race in the same age group.
A number of other Camden swimmers produced personal best times but finished outside the top three spots in their events.
Head coach Matt Heatcock said: ‘The opposition in the Arena League at this level is incredibly tough and the swimmers raced exceptionally hard.
“I was really pleased with how well the team supported each other, especially as we have a number of less experienced swimmers.
“As we head towards the county championships in January I am really pleased with how well we are progressing.”
Hillingdon won the London Premier Division, with Team Ipswich the runners-up. Over 400 teams compete nationally in the league.
