Middlesex County Cricket League - Premier Division Twickenham (0pts) 148 Hampstead (10) 149-3

Hampstead claimed their second league win in a row on Saturday as a seven-wicket victory at Twickenham took them up to second place in the Premier Division.

Mubasher Hussan (3-39) was the pick of the bowlers, while five of his Hampstead team-mates also took wickets as the hosts were dismissed for 148 in 47 overs.

It proved to be an easy target for the visitors, with captain Steve Clark (19), Robert Jones (42), Ben Scott (42) and James Cameron (43 not out) taking their side to 149-3.

The chairman of Hampstead’s playing committee, Nick Brown, said: “It was a very good team performance with bat and ball - all the wickets were shared around, and so were the runs.

“We started well and in truth never let Twickenham get into the game. It was particularly satisfying as we had a couple of players missing from the previous game, but the guys that came in all contributed and the transition was almost seamless.

“Clarky [Steve Clark] has done a terrific job in bringing the squad together - we have had nine debutants in the league this season, but you would never know.

“They seem to be very comfortable with each other and respecting of each other’s ability. The mood is great, but winning is a great elixir for team spirit!

“I think we have everyone available and fit for Saturday’s game against Richmond, but they have started well so we won’t take anything for granted. Saying that, our confidence is high and we will be playing to win.”

Meanwhile, in Division Two, a batting collapse condemned Brondesbury to their first defeat of their league campaign as they capitulated for just 78 runs at their Harman Drive home.

Visiting Shepherd’s Bush elected to bat and made 215-8 declared, which was well beyond Brondesbury, who struggled to deal with Amit Suman (5-12). James Overy (27), David Miller (14) and Will Spencer (10) were the only batsmen to make it into double figures.

Elsewhere, South Hampstead’s second successive defeat left them bottom of Division Three.

Algie Corbin hit 65 away at Kenton, while Alex Ranger made 44 and Nish Patel notched 29 as SH were skittled for 210.

In the end that was not enough as Kenton reached 214-4 in reply to triumph by six wickets, with Patel the pick of the SH bowlers with 3-68.
