Harlow Town travel to the Maurice Rebak Stadium on Saturday before Billericay Town visit on Tuesday in the quarter-finals of the Velocity Trophy

Wingate & Finchley will look to keep their season on track over the coming seven days when they play twice at the Maurice Rebak Stadium.

The Blues host Harlow Town this weekend looking to close the gap between themselves and the Bostik Premier play-off places after a potentially damaging defeat at home to Leiston on Tuesday night.

After Saturday’s match, league favourites Billericay Town travel to north London for a Velocity Trophy quarter-final tie looking to retain the cup they won last year.

It is a big few days for the Blues and they go into the two fixtures following a difficult week on the pitch.

Last Thursday (January 4) Wingate hosted Broadfields United in the second round of the Middlesex Senior Charity Cup.

A close contest occurred between a young Blues side mainly made up of under-18s and a United team looking to cause an upset.

When Paul Summers found the net with half an hour played a shock appeared on the cards, but first-teamer Ben Pattie levelled the scores five minutes after the break.

A winner couldn’t be found by either side though and so the tie went to penalties and it was Broadfields United who won 4-2 on spot-kicks.

Wingate were looking to bounce back two days later when they were set to travel to Dorking Wanderers in the Bostik Premier, but the game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Blues were able to entertain Leiston on Tuesday though and just six points separated the two sides heading into the contest with the Suffolk club just outside the play-offs.

A victory for Wingate was vital if they were to close the gap between themselves and top-five, but Matt Blake scored the only goal of the game with 13 minutes left.

It was a frustrating night for the north Londoners and they remain on 39 points from 24 league games – eight off fifth-placed Hendon in the final play-off spot who have played once more than Wingate this campaign.

Blues will aim to bounce back on Saturday when the Hawks visit and build some momentum ahead of a tough Velocity Trophy clash with Billericay Town, who have only lost twice in all competitions this season.
