The Blues saw their clash with Billericay Town abandoned on Tuesday, but will look to beat the beast of the east and the Trawler Boys on Saturday

Wingate & Finchley will be hoping the weather doesn’t affect them on Saturday after seeing their midweek Bostik Premier fixture abandoned.

The Blues were set to host the leaders Billericay Town on Tuesday night and the pitch survived a 2pm inspection, so the match got underway.

But with 21 minutes on the clock, the referee and the two clubs agreed to abandon the contest in order to ensure the safety of the players.

Wingate stay eighth in the table and four points off the top-five heading to Lowestoft Town this weekend.

Town are 20th in the table and Blues will be hoping to secure another good result after holding Dulwich Hamlet to a 0-0 draw on Saturday.

Both teams had chances to win, but a stalemate occurred in cold conditions at the Maurice Rebak Stadium.

Reece Beckles-Richards spoke to WingateTV and said: “It is always a good point against Dulwich, they are a tough team and showed it at the end because they put us under a lot of pressure, but we held out and got a nice draw.

“We always want to get the three points, but you can’t go wrong with a draw against a good team.”

The stalemate at home to second-placed Dulwich saw Wingate’s winless run extend to four matches after a tricky run of results in February.

Beckles-Richards believes the team showed good signs of being back to their best after frustrating defeats away to Tooting & Mitcham United (2-0) and Folkestone Invicta (5-0) in recent weeks.

He added: “We were good on the ball, more comfortable and a bit more composed and we looked better than we had in the last few games.

“Obviously we didn’t take our chances, but sometimes that happens and a draw is not the worst result.”

Wingate will look to end their winless run on Saturday at Lowestoft and remain in the race for the play-offs.

Blues are in a good place with 12 league fixtures left and will look to cause a few more surprises during the last two months of the season.

But regardless of where the north London club finish, boss Keith Rowland can be proud of the way his young squad continue to punch above their weight.
