The home side had the better of the opening ten minutes with three good chances – the best of which fell to Michael Ademiluyi who neatly cut inside and forced Cavagnari into his first save of the game.
The Borough took the lead in the 26th minute after some hard work from Georgios Aresti won the ball back in a dangerous position, and he played in Chinedu McKenzie who slotted home his second league goal of the season.
No more than a minute later and Worthing went up the other end and levelled the score with their first clear-cut chance of the game.
David Ajiboye slotted in Alexander Parsons and his shot at the front post went straight through legs of Valery Pajetat who had the definition of a howler.
Three minutes into the second half and with only their second shot on target the Rebels took the lead when David Ajiboye venomously volleyed home a Jesse Starkey cross from close range.
Ademiluyi had a number of good opportunities to bring the Borough level, but the striker – who could have had a hat-trick on another day - couldn’t find the back of the net.
Other chances fell to Georgios Aresti who blazed over the bar from outside of the area and Olufemi who couldn’t head home an O’Donoghue cross.
With 20 minutes left Ademiluyi was put through again by a nicely weighted ball from substitute Charley Barker, but a last ditch clearance from the Rebels left-back Alfie Young stopped the Borough man from bringing the sides level.
Borough pushed on for the last 15 minutes in a last ditch to grab something from the game, and in the 80th minute a lovely dinked ball from Rakim Richards found David Olufemi who was breaking into the Worthing box - but the full backs lofted effort over Cavagnari bounced agonisingly wide.
After stringing together a number of passes and some lovely third man play from O’Donoghue, Sanderson and Ademiluyi - O’Donoghue tried to pick out a man in a packed box when a drilled effort would have been the better option - and Worthing cleared the danger.
Haringey didn’t take their chances and some sloppy defending and a goalkeeping error cost them coming away with something from a game against a side that will be pushing for promotion.
It might be a cliché but goalkeepers are always remembered for the mistakes they make and not the great saves, and last week’s FA cup hero - Haringey stopper Valery Pajetat - will be having nightmares about that ball rolling between his legs.
