After a stunning start, Tom Loizou’s men haven’t won on a Saturday since December 9 and haven’t claimed back-to-back victories since November 4

Haringey Borough will hope they don’t need goalkeeper Austin Byfield to come to the rescue again this weekend when they host Bury Town.

The 137 spectators at Coles Park on Monday were treated to a spectacular match, which ended with the home stopper scoring the winner from all of 90-yards!

Borough and Aveley were level at 2-2 in stoppage time when Byfield’s clearance up field bounced over opposition goalkeeper Rhys Madden and despite Madden’s best efforts, he couldn’t prevent the ball from crossing the line.

It earned Tom Loizou’s side a crucial three points and sets them up nicely ahead of a big run of Bostik North games.

Haringey host Bury Town on Saturday before welcoming leaders Hornchurch to Coles Park on Monday (January 13).

Loizou will be hoping to see his team put together a strong run of form after struggling to secure positive back-to-back results of late.

Borough visited Witham Town last weekend looking to earn their first Saturday win since December 9, but come up short.

Town claimed all three points following a 2-0 victory after goals from Chinedu Osadebe and Elliott Ronto, but the north Londoners hit back on Monday.

Struggling Aveley visited Coles Park and took a shock first-half lead Alex Teniola.

Ex-Carlisle United attacker Derek Asamoah got Borough back on level terms in the 52nd minute, but Teniola grabbed his second just five minutes later to put the away side back in front.

A stunning free kick from former Wingate & Finchley youngster Coby Rowe with two minutes left helped set up a grandstand finish at Coles Park and there was time for one more goal.

Borough goalkeeper Byfield smashed the ball forward and it bounced over Madden and despite the Aveley goalkeeper getting back to grab the ball, it was adjudged to have crossed the line.

After such a dramatic win, Haringey will hope to build on it this weekend and make the most of home advantage.

Monday’s match with the Millers was the first of five in a row for Borough at Coles Park and after a stuttering two months, Loizou will aim to guide his side back into the play-off positions this month.
