After more success in the FA Trophy, north Londoners will now switch attention back to main goal of promotion

Haringey Borough will not take Bostik North strugglers Brentwood Town lightly this weekend after losing on their last trip to the Arena.

Tom Loizou praised his team this week after reaching the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy following a 1-0 win over Sittingbourne in a replay on Monday night.

The first match on Saturday in Kent ended level at 1-1 after Ralston Gabriel cancelled out Kane Rowland’s opener for the Brickies.

Gabriel made the difference for Borough on Monday with the only goal of the game at Coles Park, but Loizou isn’t thinking about the next round of the FA Trophy yet.

He was quick to remind his team of their last visit to Brentwood on April 8 when the hosts ran out 3-1 winners ahead of travelling to face the same opposition on Saturday.

“We went to them last season when they were third from bottom and they beat us, so we can’t take them lightly,” said Loizou.

“It is an even bigger game than normal considering the injuries we’ve now got, but hopefully we can get another good result.”

Haringey will be without first-choice goalkeeper Valery Pajetet for the foreseeable future after he tore a muscle in his calf on Monday.

Michael O’Donoghue also suffered a hamstring injury and both are set for a spell on the sidelines.

Loizou can turn to Austin Byfield in goal and Haringey’s manager has full confidence in his number two stopper after he kept a clean sheet off the bench during the replay win over Sittingbourne.

Borough return to the league again now and after visiting Town on Saturday, they travel to Canvey Island next Tuesday (November 21).

Tuesday is a crucial clash with both clubs currently in the top-four, Loizou said: “The game at Canvey is massive.

“Obviously it’s really important, but we will worry about that nearer the time as Brentwood comes first, so we need to focus on facing them.”

Haringey will hope they can keep hold of their unbeaten league record after two more tricky away games this week having drawn 1-1 at basement club Romford last Wednesday (November 8) thanks to Anthony McDonald’s 83rd-minute equaliser.
