Boro in action at Coles Park on Saturday and Monday

Haringey Borough boss Tom Loizou hopes his team can swiftly return to winning ways in the Bostik North when they host Grays Athletic on Saturday.

Boro slipped to a 2-1 defeat at home to Hornchurch on Monday night, despite a late goal for Lawrence Yiga.

That followed a 4-2 win at home to Bury Town on Saturday for the Coles Park team, with Michael Ademiluyi, Yiga, Lauren Luke and Derek Asamoah on target.

Haringey host Grays this weekend, before entertaining Potter Bar Town on Monday, and Loizou knows his team face another difficult run of fixtures.

“The pressure is now on Saturday when we play Grays, who are good side, and then it’s Potters Bar, who are in and around the top,” he said.

“They’re all tough games, we just have to stop feeling sorry for ourselves and get on with it.

Against Hornchurch on Monday, Haringey produced a strong finish and could have snatched a point at the death.

It was a fine show of resilience from Boro to keep doing despite being two goals down, and Loizou admits he was gutted for his side.

“I feel so sorry for the boys. They had two efforts on and scored twice; we had three or four chances, but couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net,” he said.

On Saturday against Bury, recent signing Asamoah rounded out the scoring for the hosts from the spot.

The 36-year-old previously had spells with English Football League sides Northampton Town and Carlisle United and Loizou, as well as a stint in South Korea.

The brother of former Boro player Nana, Derek already has four goals for his new club, and Loizou was delighted to be able to bring him in.

“We heard Derek was available. He did a bit of pre-season training with us, and now he’s come in to give us a hand until the end of the season,” said Loizou.

“He’s 36 years old now, but hopefully we can keep him a little longer.”

“Derek is a nice fella off the pitch and he works hard on it too. He won’t find it easy at this level; although he scored at Liverpool two-and-a-half years ago, this level is still going to be hard for him.

“He’s not big headed — he’s not an Alexis Sanchez — and he’s done everything we’ve asked of him.”

Loizou will hope Asamoah gets among the goals again this week.
