ALEX Bogdanovic knocked out the second seed Mischa Zverez in straight sets to reach the last 16 of the Surbiton Trophy on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old Globe player recorded an impressive 6-2, 6-3 victory over the world No.81 in a match played at the National Tennis Centre after heavy rain had forced the switch from grass to outdoor hard courts.

"That was a good start," said Bogdanovic, the British No.3. "The courts favoured me as they are a bit slow."

Boggo will now meet the experienced Israeli, Harel Levy.

Meanwhile, Cumberland's Anne Keothavong reached the last 16 of the women's event with a three-set win over fellow Briton Amanda Elliott.

The British No.1 resumed her rain-delayed match a set down and 3-2 but netted all nine games for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 success.

Keothavong, who recently became the first British female for nine years to gain direct entry into the Wimbledon singles, will meet Estonian Margit Ruutel for a place in the last eight.
