Cesc Fabregas has been confirmed as Arsenal's new captain.

The 21-year-old becomes the club's youngest skipper since Tony Adams in 1988.

Speaking at a press conference prior to Tuesday night's Champions League Group G match with Dynamo Kyiv, Arsene Wenger told journalists the Spaniard will take the captain's armband from William Gallas.

"This is a permanent thing. But I don't think I especially have to explain why. I have given you information but I do not have to explain to you why I make these decisions," said the Arsenal manager.

"This subject is now closed. You have to respect a little bit of the team's privacy."

Gallas, however, will play against the Ukrainian outfit as Arsenal look for a win that will put them through to the Last 16 of the competition.

Fabregas will also return after missing Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Manchester City due to suspension. Abou Diaby (abdominal strain) and Samir Nasri (knee) are ruled out.
