Herts/Middlesex One: Actonians 26 Hendon 41

Two tries from Chris Kiyingi helped Hendon record a 41-26 success at Actonians in Herts/Middlesex One.

The Greenlands Lane club started well with lock Kankretu Vytautas crashing through the Actonians defence to score, with Cian Hynes converting.

As Hendon continued to pile on the pressure, Actonians conceded a penalty on their 10-metre line for Hynes to slot over to make it 10-0 after 15 minutes.

From a lineout, the Greenlands Lane outfit then allowed Actonians back into the game with a try in the corner.

Midway through the first half, Hendon were awarded a penalty in front of the posts, but a scrum was chose.

From the set-piece, Billy Burrell passed to Hynes who burst over, before converting his own score to make it 17-7.

From the restart, a midfield ruck by Actonians was turned over by Donal O’Sullivan, who ran in from halfway with Hynes adding the extras.

Again from the restart, Rossa Dooley carried to the Actonian five-metre line to set up another backline move for Chris Kiyingi to score in the corner, with Hynes again converting as the visitors led 31-7.

Hendon were now in complete control and from a maul, Kiyingi joined to go over for his second score to make it 36-7 at the break.

Early in the second period, a Hendon defensive error allowed the home team to keep the ball tight to eventually create a pushover try.

A long kick from Hynes set up a Hendon attack for a possible score, but the move was defended out by Actonians.

On the counter-attack, the home team then crossed again to close the gap to 15 points at 36-21.

Nerves were sure to have crept into the visiting side when the hosts then scored again to move to within 10.

Captain Hynes then took control with a personal midfield attack giving the Hendon forwards several attempts to go over.

Eventually, Burrell joined a maul to finish off with a concluding try out wide to finish the game giving Hendon another bonus-point victory.
