North London’s women moved to the top of the Esme Irwin League Premier Division with wins in a home T20 double-header on Sunday.

They faced a strong Harrow St Mary’s side in their first match and posted an impressive 155-4 from their 20 overs.

Hannah Burridge led the way with a destructive 87 off just 53 balls before tight bowling and fielding restricted the visitors to leave them 48 runs short of their target. Olivia d’Souza was the pick of the bowling with 2-18 off four overs.

The second match against an experienced Actonians team was a much closer affair and North London found runs hard to come by against a disciplined attack.

Raameen Affan held things together with a composed unbeaten 66, supported by Milly Pope’s stylish 22.

But a total of 126-7 looked under threat as Actonians proceeded at six an over, with Katie Davies contributing 36, until Ashmitaa Surenkumar stepped in with three quick wickets.

Emma Black nabbed 2-12 to help close things out as Actonians ended on 112-6 to the delight of captain Daisy Meadowcroft.

“I thought we were very focused throughout the two games and having back-to-back games is challenging," she said.

"We've suffered from some illnesses and injuries and other absences, but everyone has pulled together and Sunday was a proper team effort with lots of contributions across the board.

"The younger players are doing very well and Raameen’s first 50 in senior cricket was absolutely key in the Actonians game, followed up by Ash’s spell. Both are still only 15 so really pleasing to see.”
