UCS Old Boys lost a 12-point lead in the final five minutes as an unlikely 14-12 home defeat left them contemplating three losses in a row in London North-West Division Three.
The Old Boys defended strongly in the first half while dominating the set piece, and when Sam Wilson chipped and chased to set up play in the visitors’ 22, Ahmed Ghanem went over to put the hosts 5-0 up.
A Dylan Oudshoorn try was disallowed and Rory Gibson then touched down and converted himself to extend the gap to 12-0.
Tom Loughnan looked set to add another score from 70m but was halted due to a questionably marginal forward pass – and it proved to be crucial as Welwyn grabbed two late converted tries to come from behind and win at the death.
