Captain Dave O’Dwyer scored a winning try with the last play of the match as UCS Old Boys came from behind to earn a dramatic 8-5 victory over Hackney in the Middlesex Cup.
UCS have been struggling in the league, suffering five consecutive defeats in London North-West Division Three, but they enjoyed their first home match of 2015 and will hope to build on their triumph.
The Old Boys’ pack was dominant in the first half but handling errors meant both sides missed opportunities in wet but sunny conditions.
The breakthrough came late in the first half as UCS won a penalty 40m out and Rory Gibson gave the hosts a 3-0 half-time lead.
UCS Old Boys: Watson-Cowen, Henk (Klimov), Myers D, May, Klimov, Harris (Jayne), Chapman, Zabci, Walton, Filip, O’Dwyer, Hastings, Stephenson, Arnold, Gibson, Duke, Caunter (Brooks)
