Saracens will be looking to build on a strong opening-day showing in the Gallagher Premiership when they return home to host Bristol Bears on Saturday.
The north Londoners throw open the doors at their Allianz Park base for the first time this term this weekend, having won 32-21 at Newcastle Falcons in their opening league game last weekend.
Alex Lewington scored a brace of tries on his debut for Sarries, while Jamie George and Nick Tompkins both dotted down.
George says Mark McCall’s men can be content with their display at Falcons, but knows there is plenty to work on ahead of hosting Bears this weekend.
“We went down to 13 men for a part, so our discipline needs a bit of work and the high tackle ruling is becoming difficult for us as players,” the hooker told the club website.
“We have to make sure we fix it ourselves and start targeting a bit lower because we gave away too many penalties.
“All in all, the fight that we showed and the way that Brad (Barritt) and Faz (Owen Farrell) led the team was unbelievable, and the response from the guys coming off the bench was brilliant. We showed good character and we move onto the Bristol game.”
George and his Saracens colleagues will be hoping Lewington can continue his try-scoring heroics after a scintillating debut last weekend.
A summer signing from London Irish, Lewington was initially named among the replacements against Newcastle, but came on the 24th minute after an early injury to Sean Maitland.
The 26-year-old dotted down for his first try in the 39th minute, while his second arrived in the 60th.
It was quite the Sarries debut for Lewington, but George seemed unsurprised that the wing wasted little time in making an impression with his new club.
“Alex has been brilliant and settled in so well, so fast. He’s a really great addition to our squad and we have an abundance of wings now — I wouldn’t want to be the coach picking the team,” added the hooker.
“He showed his class, we’ve seen it over the last few years for London Irish and he’s going to a huge addition to us, both on and off the field because he loves a beer as well!”
More tries for Lewington on Saturday will certainly endear him to the Saracens faithful.
