The Conservatives have won the vacant Hampstead Garden Suburb by-election seat, to give the party full control of the ward once again.

Tory candidate Rohit Roshyan Grover received 5,015 votes - storming to victory over second-placed Labour candidate Janet Solomons, who received 1,667 votes.

Liberal Democrat candidate Richard Akbiyik was in third place with 423 votes, with Green Party candidate Adele Ward in fourth with 418.

At last year’s Barnet Council elections, the Conservatives held all three Garden Suburb seats.

The Garden Suburb by-election was triggered after Conservative Cllr Danny Seal stepped down from the seat earlier this year in order to focus on his business.

Mr Grover was narrowly beaten by just nine votes at last year’s council elections when he stood as a Conservative candidate for Childs Hill.

He now joins Gabriel Rozenberg and John Marshall in representing Garden Suburb on Tory-led Barnet Council.
