Defence secretary Gavin Williamson has said the Conservative Party are "confident" ahead of the local elections, during a visit to Camden today.

The MP for South Staffordshire told the Ham&High that there was no fear about the results on Thursday May 3.

If current polling is correct, the party could be set to lose seats and councils across the capital.

He said: “We’re very confident. We’re fighting in Camden to hold seats, and win seats, and that’s the kind of approach we want to do.

“We want to make sure the local Labour council do a proper job, because they’ve not being doing a very good job up to now.”

Mr Williamson was in Belsize ward, canvassing on Elsworthy Rise with candidates Leila Roy, and Steve Adams.

He praised the efforts of current Conservative councillors and the manifesto the local Conservative party launched this week.

“We’re putting important local agendas forward, about how we can improve people’s lives, and that’s exactly what we should be doing.

“You’ve seen Conservative councillors making a difference across the over the last few years and that’s what they’ll continue to do,” he said.
